The Biographies: The Story of Avalanche
Avalanche was born as James Osias Rico Avach on January 3rd of 1979. His first name, "James" means "supplanter" in Hebrew. "James" was chosen because of a close friend of the family who had died shortly before his birth. "Osias" means "Salvation" in Greek, and before James' grandmother died, only a day after his birth, she explained that her roots were Greek and wanted James to bear the name of her father, Osias Maren. "Rico" means "Strong Ruler" in Spanish, and this name was chosen by a friend of the family named Marco Desinas who still visits with James every so often when he isn't in the hospital, fighting cancer. Anyway, James is one of 5 children; He has three brothers, Jake, Carver, and Rusty (in order of age). James also has one sister, named Senning, who moved to Japan shortly after Rusty was born. James spent about 5 years in Hawaii with his mother, Maria Avach and his father, Gordon Avach until Gordon was promoted to an Assistant Manager's position directly underneath Maria's father, Carver Miliken. So, the entire family, barring Senning, moved to New York to stay with Carver until they could get their own place to live. James grew up without Jake and Carver for the most part though...they were twins and were born almost 10 years before James, and moved out when they were 15 to live with Gordon's father in North Carolina. So, James and Rusty were the only two children left in the house with Carver, Gordon, and Maria. Finally, after much debate, Maria and Gordon settled on a home about 45 minutes north of Albany, in the mountains. They built the house up and added several small pools and cages for their assortment of animals, and the family lived happily until James turned 21, and then everything went very wrong for the finally happy family.
In 2000, Maria was diagnosed with Leukemia, which is a type of cancer. Now, occasionally Leukemia can be put into remission, but for a reason that has yet to be explained by the doctors, the disease came on very quickly. She was diagnosed in January of 2000...by February 1st she was ordered to stay in the Albany Medical Center, to be more specific, in the Hospice. Each member of the family quietly came to pay their respects until the last day, March 20th, when Maria left them all. Less than a year later, Gordon commited suicide, and James and Rusty were left to fend for themselves. After some domestic violence between James and Rusty, Rusty decided to move to the Rockies, to stay with Jake who had recently moved back to the United States after Senning decided to tour Europe. James was left alone, and started to become heavily involved in racing and frequently found himself fighting.
