Like James and Rusty, I tend to get distracted easily...in most cases, by loud things, or 99.9% of the time, by shiny things. Well, I was driving my twin alongside James, with Rusty infront of us, when suddenly I laid eyes on the shiniest vehicle I have ever seen. It was an extremely low riding Neon, which normally I hate, but it was a a bright, metallic silver...almost like tin foil. I turned after it as it turned into a back alley, and James' voice came over the radio again. "Maytrix...hun...what are you doing?" he said. I could hear the smile in his voice over the radio. "I have never seen a car shinier than this Neon and you better believe that I'm following it." I said stubbornly. "Alright I'm coming after you. Rusty!" he yelled. Rusty came on over the radio. "Yeah brotha?" he asked. James started to crackle in and out and I knocked the reciever against the dashboard a few times. The Neon in front of me had come to a dead halt and I stopped as well. We were in a narrow alley way, with no lights except those of the two vehicles...and that wasn't very much. I clicked over the radio. "James I think I'm in trouble!" I said. No response. It almost sounded like the radio was dead. I got put the truck into neutral and got out as two people got out of the Neon slowly. "You following us for any real reason?" They asked. I shrugged. "Just checking out the car." I said. The larger man came over to me and grabbed my chin in his hands, studying me. "Hey I know you. You're that fighter girl...Maytrix. They called you a prodigy in last month's newsletter." he said smoothly. I reached up and knocked his hand from my chin. "Yeah. That's me." I said, rubbing my jaw. The smaller guy came over and looked at the twin. "This is a big ride for such a little girl." he said, smiling. I could see that he was missing one front tooth and I smirked. "Yeah well, I'm not just any 'little' girl." I said. Suddenly, James pulled up in back of me. He got out and I saw him pass a gun from his left hand to his right. "You guys pack up and get outta here." he yelled up to the two men. The larger one reached up and touched my cheek lightly. "I'll see you later baby." he promised. Then him and the other guy hopped back in the Neon. I didn't take my eyes off of it until they had left the alley, then I turned and looked up at James, who had his arms crossed and was tapping his foot on the ground. "What?" I asked. He sighed. "You're one of a kind." he said. I smiled proudly. "I know." I said. He put his hands on my hips lightly and steered me so that my back was up against the back of the truck. His face suddenly got much closer to mine and I realized that his breath wasn't coming as rapidly as it had been before. I looked up at him and raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing?" I asked. He raised a finger to my lips to shush me, but I pushed it away. "You can't shush me, I'm better than you." I said plainly. He gently reached up with one hand and brushed the hair out of my face. "You're distractingly beautiful." He said softly. I blushed and pushed him away. "Enough." I said, turning to the door of the twin. He shook his head and came up behind me, his hands once again on my waist. "There's alot of things that you and I could do right now..." he said quietly. I shook my head. "No there isn't...you know that I have a boyfriend." I said, not turning to face him. He leaned forward so that his mouth was right next to my ear, which, honestly, tickled so badly I almost broke down laughing. "He doesn't have to know..." he said, letting his voice drop off. Suddenly, the radio in the truck began to crackle again. I jerked back quickly and pushed him away, then jumped up into the truck in time to hear Rusty's panicked voice. "There's cops everywhere and they're coming after me, where the hell are you guys?!" he was yelling. James ran back to his twin and climbed in, then floored it in reverse down the alley, with me not far behind.
When we reached the race destination there were literally cops everywhere. James came over the radio as we both spotted Rusty, flanked by two cops. "Alright, you take the one on the left and I'll take the right." he said. I nodded, even though he couldn't see, and shifted into 5th, flying after the cop on the left. I came up alongside him and cut him off, then slammed on the brakes and sent him flying past me. I watched as James did the same. Rusty slowed and came to a halt and I saw the reason; one of his tires was blown out. I reached over and popped the door open and he climbed in. "Thank god you two were close...where were you anyway?" he asked as he buckled his seatbelts. I shook my head and slammed the truck into 1st, then shifted my way up as James pulled up alongside me. "It's a long story."
To be continued.
